AbScent is the UK anosmia support charity, offering the best support and information so that no-one faces anosmia alone. We do this with a range of online services providing support and interaction, trusted and accessible information, and practical resources to manage life with little or no sense of smell. We now have a combined online community of more than 30,000 people from all over the world, but we know there are thousands more that need support.
We’re looking for a Fundraising Manager to join our small, hard-working, passionate team, and help propel the charity to the next level and beyond.
The right candidate will be someone who can create and deliver a fundraising strategy that aligns with our charitable purposes. Fundraising experience with another charity is desirable but a creative and entrepreneurial approach using proven sales and marketing skills is valued.
As a small and growing charity, we are still building the structure that will enable us to reach our goals. Developing your fundraising strategy will include CRM implementation and setting up new fundraising streams from scratch. AbScent particularly loves to work with people who have lived-experience of smell loss, but empathy for the challenges of living with a sensory deprivation is a must.
As the Fundraising Manager, you will be the prime driver of income generation for AbScent.
Working with the Executive Director and trustees, you will develop an income generation strategy that will include online trading as well as charity fundraising techniques.
Joining our current team of three, there is no staff responsibility yet, but we’re sure your efforts will create the need and funding to grow the team. This role is hands-on and immediate, and your chance to build something amazing.
You will be home-based - AbScent doesn’t have an office yet - but you will be expected to attend regular meetings in Hampshire.
We have an expectation that you will:
Fundraising, sales or marketing experience to management level.
Numerate and financially literate, able to produce and understand budgets.
Excellent IT skills, and experience using a range of IT applications including CRM Systems. Comfortable with working in a virtual environment.
Great communication skills – articulate and persuasive across a range of audiences.
Project management and planning skills.
Creative: spotting trends and topics of current interest, linking with AbScent’s goals.
A flexible approach, able to move with a fast-paced and changing environment.
Empathy with people living with a long-term health condition.
Understanding of the nature and impact of smell disorders.
Understanding of the importance of compliance with data protection legislation and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in the charity sector.
Knowledge of the funding environment in the voluntary sector.
Knowledge of Google’s office suite.
