How we raise and spend money

Where donations come from and how we use them to make a difference

How we raise money

Smell and taste disorders affect more people than any other sensory impairment, and yet they attract just a tiny proportion of research and medical attention. These are early days in our mission to end smell disorders and we must raise as much money as possible to fund research into treatments and to find a cure.

Our funding comes from three main sources:

  • Sales of products from the online store - like the Smell Training Kit

  • Donations and legacies

  • Grants from trusts and foundations

We receive no government funding.

Our fundraising activities include appeals both for research and services, corporate sponsorship and promotion of events such as runs. We aim to ensure that all our activities are transparent, fair, honest, and legal.

We are extremely grateful to all our wonderful supporters for every donation. Together we will end smell disorders.

How we spend money

Our charity was established in 2019 and we are investing in becoming the sustainable organisation that will enable us to see through our mission to end smell disorders and provide support to the hundreds of thousands affected.

In 2019-2020, we spent just over £100,000 on developing support services such as our free AbScent Network, creating a website to offer practical advice and information, and activities such as interpreting scientific information and research to keep patients in touch with fast-changing developments.
